Architecture 256: Africa's Premier Magazine Architecture 256

SHEAR ZEN: Wakiso Uganda

An avant-garde, strongly expressive house with simple geometries but a highly dynamic composition. The lower level is clad in stone creating a rustic and weather resistant finish in contrast to glass and alucobond on the upper level. The upper level is partially cantilevered 5 metres unsupported. Steel was used as the structural system with cladding directly onto the frame, which drastically cut on construction costs. The one of a kind house boasts of clean lines, free flowing highly functional and efficient use of space, whilst still feeling spacious to the user even with its modest size.
